Does Tsunade Die?
Manga: Naruto 600 – The Demon’s Eye is released. This episode features the sealing of Shinnō, and also how Jiraiya dies.
Anime: Boruto Episode 27 “Jiraiya Sensei’s Wish” – It turns out that Jiraiya died due to a cursed seal he had placed on his body at some point in the past; because this was something not known by anyone else (including Hokage), it wasn’t taken into consideration when planning for an attack against him. He sacrificed himself so as to save Konoha from Pain…and then later, during the time skip, he has written down all his memories about being Hokage.
Tsunade is shown to be distraught and grieving over the death of Jiraiya. She stands in front of his grave, which says “The Great Ninja who use Sexy No Jutsu” with a picture of him pulling down his pants and looking at her suggestively as she smiles back. The manga ends shortly after this panel, implying that Tsunade’s life continues on from there but we are not privy to it.
In Naruto chapter 600, when asked how he died by Pain via Six Paths Jutsu; Itachi Uchiha responds that he was killed by Taka member Kisame Hoshigaki (the man whom Obito claimed had replaced him).
In Boruto episode 67, the Konoha Council discusses Tsunade’s death, and a possible candidate to replace her as Hokage.
Does Tsunadae Die?: In Chapter 600 of Naruto manga, when asked how he died by Pain via Six Paths Jutsu; Itachi Uchiha responds that he was killed by Taka member Kisame Hoshigaki (the man whom Obito claimed had replaced him).
Tsunade is the leader of a team that includes Shizune, and two other medics. They are to seal away The Demon’s Eye, an illusion cast by Shinnō that has been driving people mad. Tsunade sends Naruto out to get aid from Jiraiya so he can protect them while they perform their sealing technique. However, when she learns that Naruto had left with Akatsuki in order to train under Orochimaru instead (in accordance with her previous request), Tsunade orders Sakura and Chiyo to go find him before it is too late. When they finally return after yet another failure, Sasuke arrives on his own volition just as all four seals disappear – having successfully completed his training with Orochimaru and found a way to break the summoning contract. The team then heads out to find Naruto, Sakura filling in for Tsunade as her strength wanes from over-use of chakra.
Sakura finds him first, but when she tells him that he is needed back at headquarters because they can’t protect themselves without his help anymore, he rejects them outright with an “I don’t care” response. In order to give some creditability (and levity) to this situation before everyone completely lost faith in him, Sasuke offers himself up instead; handing off Akatsuki’s scroll containing information on its members’ whereabouts so that Team Kakashi could be sent after them while leaving behind his old village forehead protector – now an iconic symbol of the avenger.
Sakura and Naruto both confront him about his reasons for leaving, Sakura being harsher than Naruto but they are able to get through to him with their words and he returns to headquarters.
On returning, Tsunade’s condition has worsened; her overuse of chakra in order to maintain a barrier on Konoha (and keep it safe from Akatsuki) having drained all her reserves. Minato is unable to heal her this time as she transports herself into Limbo using Hiruzen’s technique so that only an equal can bring her back out: one born more powerful than any other before them…Naruto himself! Astoundingly enough, he manages not only to return her but completely heals everybody else who was ever injured by Nagato, that being every shinobi in Konoha.
With her now fully restored to health Tsunade proceeds to heal the rest of the world and finally defeats Madara once and for all, escaping again with his life but without any power left to him. The next day she thanks Naruto for everything and takes over as Hokage herself from then on out – a position which is only fitting considering what she has done up until this point.
