I don’t know about you, but I am pretty aware of how much it impacts the environment. I live on a water supply system that pumps out 1.8 billion gallons per year. Our water company uses about 10,000,000 gallons per year. That’s a lot of water.
Well, that’s right. The average American consumes about 2,000 pounds of water per day. We’re also dumping nearly 70 million barrels of oil into the ground every single day. That makes our water supply system, which is about 4.3 million gallons per day, the largest single source of our country’s water pollution.
This is bad news for the water company as well as the people who live near the water. Because it means that the companies who are pumping this water into the ground are also polluting the water we drink, which means we are at risk for a lot higher rates of illness, cancer, and other serious health issues. It also means that the more of America’s water we have, the more we are polluting—we’re not even close.
As much as we would like to have a solution to this problem, there is no one solution to this problem. In the US you can buy bottled water, but the companies who are making the water in the US are also using this water to make energy. In the process, they are also contributing to the problem by making the water they produce more acidic and less drinkable.
We all should support this idea, and if we do, we should support it by being good to our environment. We should use this water to wash our hair and make our bed and buy organic food. But with all the talk of bottled water and the environmental and health implications, it would be nice if we could stop using this toxic water to wash the cars and cook with.
It’s not that I don’t like water, it’s just that I like it at the lake when I’m on vacation. (Not that I don’t like the lake when I’m at home either, it’s just that I don’t like to drink from the tap.) It’s one of those ideas that seems like it can be applied to everything and everyone and isn’t a big deal, but for the most part, we’re just not doing our part.
Well I guess we could just stop using all the water we use at home. But this is just one of the many ways we can do it. We use much more than bottled water. I am not suggesting that we stop using bottled water, but we could be using more energy to produce it. And I definitely dont want to go back to drinking from a tap when Im at home, but we could simply use less bottled water at home.
