J. B.S. (Joshua ben Shemaios) has a very interesting back story. He was a king of Edom, and he led a rebellion against Moses when he was told to take a census of Israel. So during this census Moses told J.B.S. to tell the people “the number of your houses.” The census was completed, and J.B.S. told the people to divide the people into two groups.
As you might guess, there are two groups in the book. One group is the first group that Moses led. The second group is the second group that Moses led. The next thing is the beginning of the book. The book is divided into chapters, and each chapter has a passage. The first group of chapters, the first three chapters, are called the Book of the First Commandment.
