Photochemical smog is caused by short wavelength ultraviolet (UV) light, which is typically emitted by the sun, being absorbed by oxygen molecules on the earth’s surface. In order for this smog to form on surfaces, the oxygen-bearing molecules must be broken down into radicals, which then attack nearby molecules.
This is one of those situations where my brain just keeps re-wiring itself. In the beginning of the video, we see the sun hitting Earth’s surface and creating some sort of photochemical smog. The same thing happens in our home, but we think that it happens more often in our home because we have windows to the outdoors. It’s like the smog that we have in the summer.
I think the reason that we have windows to the outdoors is that they don’t block out much of the sky. The smog is actually only in our home because the air filters in the ceiling are not working, as they should.
